Nepal ‘A’ began their All India Uttarakhand Gold Cup campaign with a 15-run defeat on VJD method against Kerala at the Maharana Pratap Sports College Ground, Dehradun.

Kerala, asked to bat first, posted 331 for 7 from their 50 overs. Ahammed Imran top-scored with 122 off 108 balls, striking two sixes and 12 boundaries.

Mohammed Azharuddin (55) and Abhishek (56) also struck half-centuries to push Kerala beyond the 300-run mark.

For Nepal ‘A’, Aakash Chand led the bowling effort with 3 for 44 from seven overs. Bipin Khatri picked up 2 wickets for 24 runs, while Rashid Khan and Basir Ahamad claimed one wicket each.

Chasing a massive 332, Nepal ‘A’ lost Mayan Yadav early for 3 off 11 balls before Dev Khanal and Arjun Kumal steadied the innings.

Dev Khanal made a brisk 57 off 41 balls, hitting three boundaries and three sixes before being run out.

Arjun Kumal also brought up a half-century, scoring 50 off 66 balls with four boundaries before being trapped lbw by Asif Salam.

Nepal ‘A’ were 134 for 3 from 22.3 overs when rain interrupted play, and Kerala were declared 15-run winners on the VJD method.

For Kerala, Fanoos Faiz and Asif Salam took a wicket each.

Nepal ‘A’ will next face Goa on Sunday before meeting Bhopal in their final league-stage match.
