Kolkata Knight Riders kept their playoff hopes alive with a convincing four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens on Thursday, climbing to sixth in the points table after their sixth win of the season.

After opting to bowl first, KKR’s bowlers produced a disciplined performance on a slow surface to restrict Mumbai Indians to 147/8 in 20 overs.

Cameron Green and Saurabh Dubey provided the early breakthroughs, reducing MI to 46/4 inside the PowerPlay. Green dismissed Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dhir, while Dubey removed Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav to put the visitors under pressure.

Mumbai’s middle order then struggled against KKR’s spin attack, with Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy tightening the screws. Tilak Varma managed just 20 off 32 balls before falling to Kartik Tyagi, while Narine also cleaned up Hardik Pandya to leave MI reeling at 95/6.

A late counterattack from Corbin Bosch, who remained unbeaten on 32 off 18 balls, alongside Deepak Chahar’s useful cameo, helped Mumbai recover and post a fighting total.

In reply, KKR had an early setback when Finn Allen departed cheaply, but veteran Manish Pandey, making his first batting appearance of the season, anchored the chase with a composed 45 off 33 balls.

Ajinkya Rahane added valuable runs before Rovman Powell’s aggressive 40 off 30 further tilted the game in KKR’s favour.

Mumbai bowlers tried to spark a comeback, with Bosch claiming three wickets and Jasprit Bumrah dismissing Pandey late, but the target was always within reach.

Rinku Singh stayed unbeaten once again and sealed the win with a boundary as KKR chased down the target in 18.5 overs.

The result keeps Kolkata’s playoff hopes alive heading into their final league match against Delhi Capitals, while Mumbai Indians will face Rajasthan Royals in their last fixture.
