Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru have advanced to the final of the Indian Premier League after a dominant 92-run victory over Gujarat Titans in the first Qualifier on Tuesday.

Chasing a massive target of 255, Gujarat were bowled out for 162 in 19.3 overs. Rahul Tewatia scored a fighting half-century with 68 off 43 balls, but it only proved to be a consolation. Jos Buttler made 29, while Sai Sudharsan added 14.

For Bengaluru, Jacob Duffy starred with the ball, taking three wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rasikh Salam and Krunal Pandya claimed two wickets each, while Josh Hazlewood took one.

Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Bengaluru posted a formidable 254/5 in 20 overs, which was the highest ever total in IPL playoffs so far.

Captain Rajat Patidar led the charge with a brilliant unbeaten 93 off just 33 balls, smashing nine sixes and five fours. Patidar, who was dropped on 20 by Rabada off Prasidh Krishna, made the most of the reprieve by adding another 73 runs.

Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya contributed 43 runs each, while Venkatesh Iyer scored 19 and Jitesh Sharma remained unbeaten on 15.

For Gujarat, Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder picked up two wickets each, while Prasidh Krishna took one.

With the win, Bengaluru have booked a direct spot in the final, while Gujarat still have another chance to qualify.

In Wednesday’s Eliminator, Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Rajasthan Royals, with the winner set to meet Gujarat for a place in the final.
