Sooryavanshi firepower knocks out Hyderabad

Rajasthan Royals advanced to the second qualifier of the IPL 2026 after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 47 runs in the Eliminator on Wednesday. 

Chasing a massive target of 244, Hyderabad were bowled out for 196 in 19.2 overs. Nitish Reddy top-scored with 38 runs, while Salil Arora made 35 and Ishan Kishan added 33. 

For Rajasthan, Jofra Archer starred with the ball, taking three wickets. Nandre Burger, Sushant Mishra and Ravindra Jadeja claimed two wickets each, while Yash Raj Punja picked up one. 

Earlier, after losing the toss and being invited to bat first, Rajasthan posted 243/8 in their 20 overs. Young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi played a sensational knock of 97 runs off just 29 balls. 

Suryavanshi smashed 12 sixes and five fours during his innings. He also broke Chris Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a single IPL season. Gayle had hit 59 sixes in the 2012 season, while Suryavanshi has now struck 65 sixes this season. 

After Suryavanshi’s fireworks, Dhruv Jurel continued the assault with a quickfire 50 off 21 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed 29, while captain Riyan Parag scored 26. 

For Hyderabad, Praful Hinge took three wickets, while Eshan Malinga, Shivang Kumar and Nitish Reddy grabbed one wicket each. 

Rajasthan will now face Gujarat Titans for a place in the final, while Hyderabad have been eliminated from the tournament.
