Nepal edge past Indonesia to enter Asian Games Qualifier semis

Nepal have qualified for the semi-finals of the Women’s Asian Games Qualifier after edging past Indonesia by four wickets in a tense chase at the Bayuemas Cricket Oval on Thursday.

Chasing 114, Nepal reached the target with just three balls to spare to finish the group stage unbeaten.

Batting first, Indonesia posted 113 for 4 from 20 overs, led by captain Ni Putu Ayu Nanda Sakarini’s unbeaten 56 off 62 balls, which included three boundaries.

Ni Luh Ketut Wesika Ratna Dewi added 23 in a crucial 65-run stand for the third wicket.

Left-arm spinner Manisha Upadhyay once again impressed for Nepal, returning 2 for 9 from her four overs. Riya Sharma picked up 1 for 17, while another wicket came through a run-out effected by Kabita Kunwar.

Nepal’s chase got off to a shaky start as they slipped to 20 for 3.

18-year-old Sony Pakhrin steadied the innings with 29 off 36 balls, hitting three boundaries in a 45-run partnership with captain Indu Barma.

Kabita Kunwar added a run-a-ball 14 before Sita Rana Magar finished the chase with an unbeaten 13 off 6 balls, striking three boundaries.

Indu Barma anchored the innings with an unbeaten 42 off 43 deliveries, including five fours.

For Indonesia, Ni Made Putri Suwandewi returned 2 for 16, while IDADA Laksmi Paramitha and Sang Ayu Nyoman Maypriani picked up one wicket each.
