Canada Cricket Board suspended by ICC ahead of important League 2 series
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended the Canada Cricket Board with immediate effect, citing serious breaches of its membership obligations.
The ICC Board stated that the decision was made while keeping the interests of Canadian players in mind. Therefore, Canada’s national teams will still be allowed to participate in ICC tournaments during the suspension period.
Canada Cricket will also continue to receive ICC financial support for the operation and development of its national teams. However, those funds may only be used for approved national team programmes under the ICC’s direct supervision.
The ICC has outlined a set of conditions that Canada Cricket must meet in order to regain its membership. These conditions will focus on resolving administrative and governance-related issues.
Progress on implementing these conditions will be monitored by the ICC’s Normalisation Committee and management team. The ICC stated that Canada Cricket’s membership will only be reinstated once the board is satisfied that all requirements have been fulfilled.
Canada is also scheduled to host an important series of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 starting from June 6 against the USA and the Netherlands. Recently, former Nepal team head coach Monty Desai was appointed as Canada’s head coach.
