Brothers Union concede walkover in Dhaka League amid payment dispute

Brothers Union have conceded a walkover against Agrani Bank in their Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match in Savar after players protested against unpaid dues from the club management.

According to offspinner Sohag Gazi, the players refused to take the field as officials failed to clear their payments, leading to an unusual forfeiture of the match.

The situation escalated when the team captain Zahiduzzaman did not appear for the toss, with umpires Moniruzzaman and Shafeen Shareef awarding the walkover decision in the presence of match referee Enayet Chowdhury.

Under clause 16.15.2 of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League regulations, a walkover can lead to automatic relegation, along with financial penalties.

The team may also be required to return grants received from the Bangladesh Cricket Board and pay a fine, while individual statistics from the match could be removed.

Players said they had only received a portion of their agreed payments and were repeatedly denied the remaining dues, even after multiple requests before Eid.

Gazi claimed the squad faced delays, partial payments, and mistreatment from club officials. He added that players even returned small partial payments offered during discussions, insisting they were seeking only the remaining contracted amounts.

The dispute has reportedly been ongoing for several seasons without a long-term resolution.

If Brothers Union are relegated, players fear the issue may again remain unresolved within the lower division structure.

The incident highlights continuing financial and administrative challenges in domestic cricket governance in Bangladesh.
