Scottish cricketer Mark Watt produced a sensational performance to lead Karnali Yaks to a dominant win over Lumbini Lions in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) at TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.

Known mainly as a bowler, the 29-year-old surprised everyone by opening the innings, and smashing the first century of this NPL season.

Watt blasted an unbeaten 114 runs and scored the fastest century in NPL history, reaching his hundred in just 41 balls. He also set records for the highest individual score in a single NPL match and the most sixes in one innings.

Watt opened with Priyank Panchal and kept attacking from the start, maintaining his aggressive style until the end. He hit 6 fours and a remarkable 12 sixes, scoring 96 of his runs in boundaries.

Karnali chased Lumbini’s target of 157 in only 12.2 overs, losing just one wicket, with Watt clearly the hero of the match. He shared a 38-run stand with Panchal for the first wicket and an unbeaten 123-run partnership with Australian all-rounder William Bosisto, who supported him with 29 not out from 20 balls.

Watt admitted after the match that he was lucky to survive an early dropped catch on 39, but said he was thrilled to score his first-ever professional century in front of Nepali fans. He dedicated the milestone to the Karnali team and thanked them for promoting him to the top order.

Watt had opened for Scotland earlier in 2025 but hadn’t made big scores then, making this innings even more special. Watt also contributed with the ball, taking 1 wicket for 16 runs in 3 overs and being involved in a run-out, while Bosisto and other foreign players impressed in the field.

For Lumbini, captain Rohit Paudel top-scored with 49, while Trumpelmann (29* off 14) and JJ Smit (23 off 14) played quick cameos late in the innings.

But overall, they couldn’t repeat their winning form from their first match. With this one-sided victory, Karnali registered their first win of the season, while both teams now have two points from two matches.
