Tom Banton’s fifty guides England to five-wicket win over Scotland

England registered a crucial five-wicket victory against Scotland in a Group C encounter of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 played in Kolkata on Saturday. 

Chasing 153 for victory, England reached the target in 18.2 overs with five wickets in hand. Tom Banton starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 63 off 41 balls that included four fours and three sixes. 

Jacob Bethell contributed 32 runs, while Sam Curran added 28 to steady the chase. 

Scotland’s wickets were shared among Brandon McMullen, Brad Wheal, Michael Leask, Bradley Currie and Oliver Davidson, who claimed one wicket each. 

Earlier, after being sent in to bat, Scotland were bowled out for 152 in 19.4 overs. Captain Richie Berrington top-scored with 49, while Michael Jones made 33, Tom Bruce scored 24 and Davidson chipped in with 20. 

England’s bowling attack was led by Adil Rashid, who picked up three wickets, while Jofra Archer and Liam Dawson took two each. Jamie Overton and Curran claimed one wicket apiece. 

With the win, England moved to four points from three matches in Group C. Scotland remain on two points from three games and will next face Nepal. 

West Indies currently lead the group with four points from two matches, while Italy sit third with two points, and Nepal are yet to open their account.
