Sudurpaschim Province have created history in Janakpur on Sunday after securing their first ever win against a departmental side in the PM Cup to keep themselves in contention for a place in the final.

Sudurpaschim defeated Nepal Police Club by 56 runs while defending 192, handing Police their biggest defeat in the tournament.

The result also confirmed Tribhuwan Army Club as one of the two teams to play the final on Friday.

Sudurpaschim’s hopes now depend on Madhesh Province, who must lose at least one of their remaining two matches against Armed Police Force Club or Nepal Police Club for Sudurpaschim to become the first ever provincial side to reach the PM Cup final after eight editions.

If Madhesh win both games, they will finish on 13 points and qualify for the finals.

It was once again Narayan Joshi who rescued Sudurpaschim with the bat after they were invited to bat first. Reduced to 46 for 5, Narayan Joshi struck 82 off 80 balls, hitting six sixes and seven boundaries to take the total to 191.

Narayan Joshi now has 301 runs in the tournament and is the third leading run-scorer, with three fifties, two of them from number eight and one from number seven.

For Police, Dinesh Kharel starred with 4 for 17 from nine overs. Sagar Dhakal picked up 3 for 52, while Kushal Bhurtel (2 for 16) and Gulshan Jha (1 for 34) also took wickets.

Chasing 192, Police never settled in the innings. Hemant Dhami struck early, removing the top order to finish with 3 for 21 from six overs.

Captain Sher Malla also chipped in with 3 for 49 to keep Sudurpaschim in control.

Ashok Dhami, Khadak Bohara and Narayan Joshi took a wicket each as Police were bowled out for 108.

Gulshan Jha top-scored for Police with 50 off 64 balls, hitting five sixes and a four, but had little support from the other end as the chase unraveled.
