Sublime Rohit fails to avert Nepal’s loss

Skipper Rohit Kumar Paudel continued his sublime form but Nepal lost to West Indies ‘A’ by 10 runs in their second of the five-match Twenty20 Series on Sunday.

Electing to bat first at the TU grounds, the Windies were lifted by a late cameo from Gudakesh Motie to what ultimately was a winning total of 160-7.

Rohit, who slammed his first ever Twenty20 century leading Nepal to a sensational victory in chase of 205 runs, played fluently to remain unbeaten on 71 but Nepal were restricted to 150-9.

Nepal were teetering at 28-4 by the end of powerplay before Gulshan Jha played a quickfire 11-ball 26 pushing the visitors to back foot.

Rohit added 43 runs for the sixth wicket with Aarif Sheikh (12) but the West Indies bowlers managed to contain Nepali batsmen in the closing stages.

Rohit’s 48-ball innings included six fours and two sixes. Man-of-the-match Motie (2-22) and Obed McCoy (2-24) took two wickets each for West Indies ‘A’.

Earlier, Andre Fletcher top scored for West Indies ‘A’ hitting three sixes in his 43 off 36.

Skipper Roston Chase made 22-ball 23 but it was Motie who made the impact smacking an eight-ball 33 not out with four sixes and two fours.

Kushal Bhurtel and Sagar Dhakal bowled effectively taking two wickets each for the hosts conceding 41 runs collectively in their eight overs.
