Spinners star as Nepal A defeat Scotland

Nepal A cricket team earned an impressive 46-run victory over Scotland national cricket team in the first one-day practice match at the Upper Mulpani Cricket Ground.

Chasing a target of 278, Scotland were bowled out for 232 in 48.2 overs despite a strong opening stand. Finlay McCreath top-scored with 52, while Jack Jarvis made 45 and Mark Watt added 37. Matthew Cross scored 22 and Brandon McMullen contributed 21.

Nepal A’s spinners played a key role in turning the match around. Rashid Khan picked up three wickets, while Shahab Alam, Yuvraj Khatri and Basir Ahmad claimed two wickets each. Kushal Malla also took one wicket.

Scotland looked comfortable early in the chase, with Watt and McCreath putting together an 87-run partnership for the first wicket. They later reached 108-1, but the innings collapsed quickly as Nepal’s spin attack dominated the middle overs.

Scotland slipped from 108-1 to 164-7 after several batters lost their wickets attempting risky shots.

Earlier, Nepal A posted 277-8 from their 50 overs after being asked to bat first. Dev Khanal led the innings with 63 runs, while Mayan Yadav scored 45.

Sundeep Jora added 34, Pawan Sarraf made 31, and Deepak Dumre remained unbeaten on 23.

Nepal also made a solid start with captain Anil Sah and Mayan Yadav sharing a 56-run opening partnership. After Sah departed for 18, Mayan and Dev Khanal continued the momentum before Nepal lost their second wicket at 83.

Dev later built a 77-run partnership with Sandeep Jora to keep the innings steady. Although the scoring rate slowed in the later overs, Deepak Dumre provided a strong finish by hitting four boundaries and a six in the final over to push Nepal A to a competitive total.

For Scotland, Bradley Currie and Safyaan Sharif took two wickets each, while Jack Jarvis, Oliver Davidson and Brandon McMullen claimed one wicket apiece.

Nepal A will now face United States on Friday.
