Shahab four-for in vain as Canada clinch series against Nepal ‘A’

Canada XI defeated Nepal ‘A’ by four wickets in the decider to clinch the three-match series by 2-1 on Thursday at the Mulpani Cricket Ground.

Canada restricted the home side to 181 runs in 47 overs and chased it down with 67 balls remaining.

Seven out of the top eight got the start for Nepal, but none of them converted. Sher Malla (duck) was the only batsman to score in single digit.

Nepal were off to a decent start with openers, Aashutosh Ghiraiya and Arjun Kimal stitching a 54-run opening stand. Aashutosh slammed five boundaries for his 43-ball 28 while Arjun scored 27 off 53 balls including two fours.

Basir Ahmad (25), Sundeep Jora (24), Sujan Thapaliya (20), Pratish GC (19), and Rashid Khan (19) all saw off the initial phase but failed to make a significant impact.

Nicholas Kirton (2-27), Dillon Heyliger (2-28) and Harsh Thaker (2-32) worked in pairs to share six wickets between them.

Left arm spinner Shahab Alam tried his best with impressive bowling figures of 4-35 in 10 overs. Sher (1-31) and Basir (1-17) chipped in with a scalp each.

The player of the match, Nicholas, scored an unbeaten 58 off 79 balls involving six fours. Aaron Johnson, who opened the batting for Canada, added a quickfire 41 off 31 balls with two fours and four sixes to his name.
