High-voltage India-Pakistan clash confirmed after Pakistan U-turn

Pakistan have withdrawn their decision to boycott their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 group-stage match against India and will now take the field in the much-anticipated clash scheduled for February 15 in Colombo.

The Government of Pakistan announced through a post on X that, considering the requests from friendly nations and the outcomes of recent discussions, it has granted permission for the national team to play against India.

According to the government, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi briefed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the outcomes of high-level meetings held between the PCB, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

The government also reviewed formal requests from the BCB, along with communications from Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates and other member nations that encouraged Pakistan to help find a constructive solution to the ongoing situation.

Pakistan further acknowledged the gratitude expressed by BCB President Amin ul Islam and reiterated its commitment to stand alongside Bangladesh.

As part of diplomatic efforts, Prime Minister Sharif also held a telephone conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who urged Pakistan to take a positive step toward resolving the impasse.

Pakistan had earlier decided to boycott the high-profile match against India but has now reversed that stance, confirming its participation in the fixture.
