Oman kick off Nepal tour with 70-run win over Nepal ‘A’

Oman began their tour of Nepal with a 70-run win over Nepal ‘A’ at the Upper Mulpani Cricket Ground on Wednesday, posting 280/9 before bowling the hosts out for 210.

After opting to bat in tricky morning conditions, Oman made a steady start with a 79-run opening stand.

Jatinder Singh led the way with 58 before being bowled by left-arm spinner Santosh Yadav, who soon removed the other opener Ashish Odedra for 27. Hammad Mirza fell for 5, but Mujibur Ali and Hashir Dafedar rebuilt with a 91-run stand.

Mujibur top-scored with 72 off 85 balls, hitting three sixes and four boundaries, while Dafedar added 46. Late contributions from Vinayak Shukla (25) and Jiten Ramanandi (17) pushed Oman to 280.

Nepal ‘A’ used nine bowlers, with Aakash Chand the standout, returning 4/31 from nine overs. Santosh Yadav picked up 2/15, while Shahab Alam, Sher Malla and Rashid Khan took a wicket each.

In reply, Nepal ‘A’ made a strong start with an 84-run opening stand between Anil Sah and Trit Raj Das. Anil scored 50 off 64 before falling to a sharp catch, while Trit Raj added 31.

Dev Khanal and Ishan Pandey then put on 91 runs to keep Nepal in the chase. Ishan top-scored with 52 off 62 balls, while Dev made 43 off 43 with a six and three boundaries.

However, Nepal ‘A’ collapsed dramatically, losing their last eight wickets for just 33 runs to fall short by 70 runs.

Left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed starred for Oman with 3/8 from four overs. Mujibur Ali (2/25) and Nadeem Khan (2/42) provided support, while Hassnain Shah picked up one wicket.

The two sides will meet again on Friday at the same venue.
