Nepal women fail to qualify for Asia Cup after quarterfinal loss to Thailand
Chasing 131 for victory, Nepal struggled with the bat and could only manage 74-7 from their 20 overs. Captain Rubina Chhetry top-scored with an unbeaten 20, while Soni Pakhrin made 15, Sita Rana Magar scored 12 and Samjhana Khadka added 11.
No other batter reached double figures.Thailand's bowlers kept Nepal in check throughout the innings. Thipatcha Putthawong returned figures of 2-7 from four overs, while Sunida Chaturongrattana and Suleeporn Laomi claimed two wickets each.
Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat, Thailand posted 130-4. Nannapat Koncharoenkai anchored the innings with an unbeaten 63 off 51 balls, while Phannita Maya contributed 26 and Chanida Sutthiruang added 16.
For Nepal, Kavita Kunwar, Riya Sharma and Rubina Chhetry picked up one wicket apiece.
The defeat means Nepal missed out on a place in the Women's Asia Cup, having needed to reach the semifinals to secure qualification.
It marks another disappointment for the Nepali side, which also failed to qualify for the Asian Games last week after losing a decisive match against China.
