Nepal sign off with victory over West Indies ‘A’

Spinner Sagar Dhakal and Sompal Kami picked up three wickets each as Nepal defeated West Indies ‘A’ by six wickets to sign off the five-match Series with a timely victory on Saturday.

The result means West Indies won the Series 3-2 following a clinical victory in the fourth Twenty20.

While three from the West Indies squad now head back home with a prized spot in the main squad for the Twenty20 World Cup, Nepal go into the global showpiece holding their head high having given a decent performance against a strong Caribbean side.

In the final game, a middle order fightback helped West Indies ‘A’ put up a challenging 172-7 in 20 overs.

Opener Aasif Sheikh and No 3 Anil Kumar Sah then struck half centuries before Kushal Malla finished in style with a cameo leading Nepal to 173-4 with seven balls to spare.

Nepal lost Kushal Bhurtel (13) early in the game but Aasif and Anil added 94 runs for the second wicket. Aasif hit five sixes and two fours in his 35-ball 51, while Anil’s 45-ball 58 included four each boundaries and sixes.

Kushal Malla did the rest smacking 37 runs from 18 balls hitting three sixes and as many fours. Obed McCoy took three wickets for West Indies ‘A’.

Earlier, Sagar took three wickets in his first two overs to put the Windies on backfoot. Alick Athanaze struck 42 not out from 29 and skipper Roston Chase made a 23-ball 33 to consolidate the innings.

Athanaze hit three sixes and a four. Matthew Forde struck 12-ball 23 with three sixes.

While Sompal bowled with some discipline conceding just 16 runs while taking three wickets, Sagar gave away 17 runs in two overs.
