Koshi and Sudur Paschim kick up with win

Koshi Province and Sudur Paschim Province started their Koshi Province Trophy National T20 Tournament with a win on Tuesday at Baijanathpur Cricket Ground, Biratnagar.

The 12-day-long tournament is being organized by the Morang District Cricket Association with major assistance from the Koshi Provincial government. Seven provinces and three departmental sides will sum up ten participating sides.

Koshi outplayed Karnali by 38 runs, while Sudur Paschim beat Gandaki Province by 40 runs on the opening day of the event.

Electing to bat first, skipper Ankit Subedi’s 36-ball 48 helped the home team post 140-8 in 20 overs. Gandaki could only manage to score 102 runs, losing all wickets in 18.3 overs.

Sujan Thapaliya contributed 38 off 37 balls for the winning side, hitting four boundaries and a six. Anuj Chunara returned the figures of 2-21 in his four overs.

In reply, Himanshu Shahi only showed some grit with an unbeaten 26-ball 34, including three fours and two sixes. Player-of-the-match Dipesh Kandel picked up three wickets, giving away 20 runs in his 3.3 overs.

In the second match of the day, Naren Bhatta’s unbeaten 62 off 46 balls guided Sudur Paschim to 172-2 in 20 overs. He struck seven fours and a six. Hemant Dhami’s 3-14 restricted Gandaki to 132 in 17.4 overs.
