KKR edge past LSG in a dramatic super over finish

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) edged past Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a dramatic Super Over to register a thrilling win in IPL 2026.

The match, played late Sunday night, became the first Super Over contest of the season. Chasing a modest target of just 2 runs in the Super Over, Kolkata sealed victory in a single delivery.

Earlier, both teams had finished level on 155 runs in their allotted 20 overs, forcing the game into a tie-breaker.

In the Super Over, Lucknow sent Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram to bat, but Kolkata’s Sunil Narine struck immediately, bowling Pooran on the first ball.

Captain Rishabh Pant managed a single before Markram was caught, leaving Lucknow with only 1 run. In reply, Rinku Singh smashed a boundary off the very first ball to secure Kolkata’s win, alongside Rovman Powell.

Before the Super Over, Lucknow had chased Kolkata’s target of 156 but could only manage 155/8. The game went down to the final over, where Lucknow needed 17 runs.

The over included two no-balls from Kartik Tyagi, adding to the drama. Mohammad Shami eventually forced the tie by hitting a six off the final delivery.

Pant top-scored for Lucknow with 42 runs, while Markram added 31. Ayush Badoni contributed 24, and Himmat Singh scored 19.

For Kolkata, Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakravarthy picked up two wickets each, while Narine, Cameron Green, Anukul Roy, and Kartik Tyagi took one apiece.

Earlier, Kolkata posted 155/7 after being put in to bat. Rinku Singh played a standout innings, remaining unbeaten on 83 off 51 balls. He shared a crucial 62-run partnership with Narine after Kolkata had slipped to 93/7.

Rinku also hammered four consecutive sixes in the final over. Cameron Green chipped in with 34 runs, while captain Ajinkya Rahane scored 10.

For Lucknow, Mohsin Khan delivered an excellent bowling performance, claiming 5 wickets for 23 runs in his four overs. George Linde took one wicket.

With this win, Kolkata moved up to eighth place with 5 points from 8 matches, while Lucknow dropped to the bottom of the table with 4 points from 8 games.
