Khadak Bohara delivered a decisive spell as Sudurpaschim Province edged past Lumbini Province by 12 runs in Birgunj on Monday, defending a modest total to climb to third in the PM Cup points table. Lumbini, meanwhile, slumped to their second defeat of the campaign.

Asked to bat first after being put in, Sudurpaschim found themselves in early trouble and were restricted to 126 for 9. Just when a below-par total loomed, a crucial late surge lifted them to 168. Hemant Dhami (29) and Saurya Shrestha stitched together a valuable 42-run stand that provided much-needed momentum in the closing stages.

Earlier, Dipak Bohara held the innings together with a patient 30 off 55 balls, striking five boundaries from No. 5 as wickets fell around him.

Lumbini’s bowlers were on point for most of the innings, with Santosh Yadav (4 for 39) and Ajay Chauhan (4 for 25) sharing eight wickets between them. Sandesh Thapa chipped in with one, but the late flourish from Sudurpaschim proved costly.

In reply, Lumbini’s chase revolved almost entirely around Santosh Yadav, who compiled a fighting 67 off 84 balls, including seven fours and a six. He found support from Dhurba Sonar, and the pair added 62 runs for the sixth wicket to revive hopes after a shaky start.

However, the turning point came when Khadak Bohara struck to remove Santosh Yadav, effectively breaking Lumbini’s backbone. He followed it up with another wicket in the same over, dismissing Ajay Chauhan close out Lumbini’s innings.

Khadak Bohara finished with outstanding figures of 3 for 13 in 5.2 overs and was rightly named Player of the Match. Captain Sher Malla provided strong support with 3 for 32, while Hemant Dhami (2 for 34) and Lokendra Chand (1 for 11) chipped in to bundle Lumbini out for 156.
