Indian side Sonnet stun TAC, APF triumph

Sonnet Cricket Club of Kanpur and Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club won their respective matches of the�Deepak Gupta Memorial Twenty20 (DGMT) cricket tournament in Janakpur�on Tuesday.

�In the first match reduced to 15 overs due to technical reason, Sonnet defeated Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) by four runs. Electing to bat first, Sonnet Cricket Club made 103-7 in 15 overs but their bowlers did well to restrict the Armymen to 99-7.�

Shivam Dixit lifted the team from 29-4 with a 66-run stand for the fifth wicket with Rishav Rai�(24). Shivam struck four boundaries and two maximums on his way to making a 25-ball 43 as Sonnet ultimately build on a to winning total.

�

Sompal Kami, Jitendra Mukhiya, Bikram Sob, Susan Bhari, Sagar Pun had a scalp each for TAC.

�

TAC had a decent reply after Sagar Pun and Naresh Budhayer shared 39 runs for the first wicket but their middle order failed to make the most of it. Sagar smashed 23 from just 13 balls with a six and three boundaries, while Naresh was the leading scorer with a 31-ball 30 that included two sixes and a four.

�

Bikram Sob gave a late scare to Sonnet striking two fours and a six in his six-ball cameo of 16 but it was still not enough for the Armymen.�Man-of-the-match Shivam Dixit�and Adesh Kumar of Sonnet returned the figures of 2-9 and 2-12 in their respective three-over spells.

�

In the second match, APF eased to a six-wicket victory over Birat Cricket Society.�APF registered their first victory of the tournament after Sandeep Jora scored a half century�(56 runs) from 44 balls with two boundaries and four maximums.�

Electing to bat first, Birat Cricket Society scored 117-9 in 20 overs before APF cantered to victory in 18 overs. Opener Anil Sah made 21, while Pranit Thapa Magar (17) and Bhuwan Karki (14) were other notable contributors for APF.

Dipesh Kandel took three and Arsalan Akhtar took one wicket for Birat. Sandeep was declared the man-of-the-match.

�

Earlier, spinners Bhuwan Karki (2-12) and Irshad Ahmed (3-18) tightened the screws in Birat batting order.�Pawan Sarraf also took two wickets for the winning side.

�

Meenas Thapa top scored for the Biratnagar-based team with 29 runs from 31 balls with four hits over the fence. Dipendra Chaudhary (23), Firdosh Ansari (17) and veteran Mehboob Alam (12) were other batsmen to reach double digits.�

�

APF will now compete against Sonnet in the first match�on Wednesday�and TAC will be up against�Birat.
