Hyderabad beat Punjab to go top of the table

Sunrisers Hyderabad climbed to the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 points table after defeating Punjab Kings by 33 runs. 

With this loss which is Punjab’s third consecutive defeat, they dropped to second place, while Hyderabad moved into the top spot. 

Chasing a massive target of 236 runs set by Hyderabad, Punjab managed only 202 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. 

Despite a brilliant unbeaten century by Cooper Connolly, Punjab fell short. Connolly scored 107 runs off 59 balls, hitting 7 fours and 8 sixes. Marcus Stoinis added 28 runs, while Suryansh Shedge contributed 25. 

For Hyderabad, captain Pat Cummins and Shivang Kumar took 2 wickets each, while Nitish Reddy, Eshan Malinga, and Saqib Hussain picked up one wicket each. 

Earlier, after losing the toss and being invited to bat first, Hyderabad posted a huge total of 235 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs. Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan both scored half-centuries. 

Klaasen made 69 runs off 43 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes, while Kishan scored 55 off 32 balls, including 2 fours and 4 sixes. Travis Head added 38, and Abhishek Sharma contributed 35. 

For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh, Lockie Ferguson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Vijaykumar Vyshak took one wicket each. 

With this victory, Hyderabad now have 14 points from 11 matches and sit at the top of the table, while Punjab are second with 13 points from 10 matches.
