Dipendra falls short of rare ODI milestone after historic three fifty plus run
Dipendra Singh Airee’s run of form ended just short of another milestone after he was dismissed for 33 against Oman on Tuesday.
He had already created history earlier in the leg by becoming the first Nepal batter to register three consecutive ODI half-centuries. That sequence featured two fifties followed by a century, putting him on the verge of an even bigger record.
The next step would have been four consecutive 50-plus scores in ODIs, a feat achieved by only a few Associate batters. Kyle Coetzer and Calum MacLeod of Scotland, Monank Patel and Milind Kumar of USA, and Scott Edwards of Netherlands (twice) have previously managed it.
MacLeod and Milind are the only ones to have done so in the same ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 series, with MacLeod doing it in Aberdeen in 2022 against USA and UAE, and Milind repeating the feat in Dubai last October against UAE and Nepal.
Dipendra finished the leg with 268 runs from four innings, continuing to underline his importance in Nepal’s middle order. With a home series against USA and Scotland starting in less than a week, he will have another opportunity to extend his rich vein of form.
