Binod Bhandari’s 189 powers Army to record win as Koshi end winless run

Koshi Province ended their difficult campaign in the PM Cup on Monday in Janakpur, as Tribhuwan Army Club registered their biggest win of the tournament to extend their unbeaten run and hand Koshi another heavy defeat.

Already through to the final, Army crushed Koshi by a record 185 runs after posting 362 for 8, powered by a commanding innings from skipper Binod Bhandari.

Binod Bhandari struck 189 off 150 balls, hitting 21 fours and five sixes to register the second-highest individual score in the tournament, behind Asif Sheikh’s 208, which came earlier in the day at the other venue in Birgunj.

He was well supported by Bhim Sharki, who made 80 as the pair added 148 for the second wicket to set up a daunting total.

For Koshi, Bipin Mahato took 3 for 69, while Dipesh Kandel, Ashish Magar and Rohan Shah picked up one wicket each.

Chasing 363, Koshi were never in the contest and finished on 177 for 9 in 36 overs. Prabhat Rai top-scored with 38 off 45 balls.

For Army, Aakash Chand led the bowling with 3 for 42, while Basir Ahamad picked up 2 for 39. Shahab Alam, Naren Saud and Pawan Karki also chipped in with a wicket each.
