Basir Ahmad’s all-round show lifts Army to the top

Tribhuwan Army Club climbed to the top of the PM Cup table with a six-wicket win over home side Madhesh Province in Janakpur on Thursday, maintaining their unbeaten run in the competition. Madhesh, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat.

Opting to bat first, Madhesh posted 184 in 48.3 overs. Bishal Sushling top-scored for Madhesh with a composed 51 off 73 balls, striking three boundaries and two sixes, while captain Anil Sah set the tone early with a fluent 42, including two fours and two sixes.

Army’s bowlers shared the workload effectively, with Basir Ahmad leading the way with 3 for 31 in 8.3 overs. He was well supported by Shahab Alam (2 for 40) and Naren Saud (2 for 27), while Aakash Chand, Kushal Malla and Pawan Karki chipped in with a wicket each to keep Madhesh in check.

In reply, Army made a strong start, putting on 67 for the opening wicket before Binod Bhandari was caught behind for 32. The chase was then anchored by Trit Raj Das, who struck a well-paced 69 off 72 balls, laced with seven boundaries and three sixes, to keep Army firmly on track.

With the platform set, Basir Ahmad capped off a fine all-round performance, finishing unbeaten on 41 with three fours and a six to guide Army home comfortably.

For Madhesh, Aadil Aalam picked up 2 for 25, while Pawan Sarraf and Bishal Sushling chipped in with a wicket each, but the total proved insufficient against a well-balanced Army side.
