Australia crush Oman to end T20 world cup campaign on a high

Australia signed off their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a dominant nine-wicket victory over Oman in their final Group B fixture at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

Chasing a modest target of 105, Australia raced to 108/1 in just 9.4 overs. Captain Mitchell Marsh led from the front with an unbeaten 64 off 33 balls, while Travis Head contributed a brisk 32 from 19 deliveries before being dismissed.

Josh Inglis remained not out on 12. Oman’s only breakthrough came through Shakeel Ahmad.

Earlier, after being put in to bat, Oman were bowled out for 104 in 16.2 overs. Wasim Ali top-scored with 32 runs, while captain Jatinder Singh made 17 and Kashyap Prajapati added 16.

Australia’s bowlers shared the spoils, with leg-spinner Adam Zampa starring with figures of 4 for 21 in 3.2 overs. Glenn Maxwell and Xavier Bartlett picked up two wickets apiece, while Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Ellis claimed one each.

Despite the comprehensive win, Australia had already been eliminated from the tournament after earlier defeats to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, with their only other victory coming against Ireland.

Oman, meanwhile, ended their campaign winless, losing all four of their group matches.

From Group B, Zimbabwe advanced to the Super 8 stage unbeaten, while Sri Lanka progressed after securing three wins in the group phase.
