Army extend PM Cup dominance with third title in eighth final

Tribhuwan Army Club secured their third Men’s PM Cup title with a five-wicket win over Sudurpaschim Province in the final in Birgunj on Friday, extending their dominance in the tournament.

Playing their eighth final, Army overcame debutant finalists Sudurpaschim to seal the trophy, finishing off the chase in 34.3 overs.

Batting first, Sudurpaschim were restricted to 161 in 39.4 overs after a lower-order fightback. The No. 6, 7 and 8 batters — Kiran Thagunna (35), Narayan Joshi (29) and Ashok Dhami (43) — offered resistance, but the innings never fully recovered from early damage. Hemant Dhami added 16 to push the total past 150.

For Army, Aakash Chand led the attack with 3 for 31, while Shahab Alam picked up 3 for 55. Kushal Malla (1 for 25) and Basir Ahmad (2 for 25) also chipped in with wickets.

In reply, Army’s chase was far from straightforward after early setbacks reduced them to 15 for 2. But they recovered through a composed effort from Imran Sheikh, who remained unbeaten on 46 off 82 balls, striking two fours and two sixes.

He was well supported by Basir Ahmad, who made 45 off 56 deliveries, while opener Trit Raj Das set the tone with a steady 31 off 32 balls.

Sudurpaschim kept striking back through the innings, with Hemant Dhami taking 2 for 32 and Bikash Agri, Sher Malla and Ashok Dhami picking up a wicket each, but Army held their nerve to get over the line and lift the title.
